The story behind Baltimore’s most “spa-tacular” brand.

The Salon by Debbie Spa brand began in 1990 when founder Debbie Nazelrod opened her first salon, By Debbie, in downtown Baltimore. The salon’s popularity with downtown professionals quickly overwhelmed the small 800-square-foot space, and, after just one year, Debbie unveiled a 3000-square-foot location: By Debbie Salon.

Even with the new, larger salon, demand for Debbie’s services continued to outpace her space. She expanded to the Baltimore suburban market, opening Salon by Debbie in Parkville in 1996 and Spa at The Crossing in 2000.

Growing from a salon into a day spa brand.

Spa at The Crossing marked the company’s first foray into the true day spa experience—and it was an instant hit. Within three months of opening, the initial 1,800-square-foot space had expanded to 4,800 square feet and established the blueprint for Debbie’s next generation of spas: Spa on The Avenue in White Marsh, Spa in The Valley in Hunt Valley, and Spa on The Boulevard in Abingdon. These spas all carry the Salon by Debbie Spa signature “spa-tacular” experience: state-of-the-art style, exceptional service, and luxurious attention to detail.

A family of award-winning spas.

Salon by Debbie Spa locations have repeatedly been named among “America’s 200 Fastest-Growing Salons” by Salon Today Magazine, “Baltimore’s Largest Women-Owned Businesses” by the Baltimore Business Journal, and “Baltimore’s Top 30 Salons” by Baltimore Magazine.
